the break up

last night we made a swift & important decision.

no more DVR (tivo) or HD at our house.
no more friends re-runs, office, house hunters international, property virgins, Oprah,
swamp people (landon's fav), intervention, cougar town, modern family,
parenthood, America's next top model (totally guilty!)
or the occasional History channel documentary.

we broke it off with our TV.
the relationship has been a unhealthy, costly, but enjoyable one.
but it was time.

we can't technically turn off the cable because it flows from the wall without cost (free)
but, without shows recorded on the daily awaiting me from my return home from work
and without high definition
its really not tempting.
i'd be too impatient to sit through a commercial.

our TV won't be a complete waste however, we still have our blue-ray player
and we'll still watch movies on the weekends, but no TV during the week.
instead i will be reading one of the 20+ books on my amazon wish list.
i'm so excited.
and landon already returned the DVR HD box to the cable company this morning.
its a done deal. and it feels liberating!

Woohoo!!! Things are on ice between me and Hulu right now-- I totally understand. Sometimes, you just need to rid yourself of the ball and chain. Enjoy being a free woman!

Good Job Jess! and Landon!
We also don't watch too much TV around here---we don't even have cable. It's nice, we get way more done and it's a lot cheaper! :) What books are you reading?

Wow. That is a big step. I don't have TV but my husband and I love to watch stuff on the computer...which is hooked up to our TV...so technically I do watch a lot of TV...hmmm....

same here. no tv, just lots of Netflix. We made a rule to not watch anything on Mondays or tuesdays either. It helps us get things done. It's rather enlightening watching tv after a while of not having it and realizing how much smut is actually on all the time.

Jason and I have gone without a TV for four years now. It is very liberating. Enjoy your books and extra time!

Congratulations! That's so exciting. Jon and I got rid of our cable box last year and it was the best thing we have ever done. I don't miss TV at all and we're so much happier!

We are on our 3rd year sans TV. It is great. You will be surprised how many things you can actually accomplish without it!!!

We have been on basic channels only since we moved into our house a year ago. That was how Netflix became our new best friend!

Now that all the sports are picking up, Gary has been tempted to get all those channels again...I think so far we're holding strong!

Honestly it has been a good thing. We have dinner at the table every day instead of in front of the TV. I love it--it totally gives us more interactive family time. So congrats on opening up your schedule!

what a great idea! good luck! keep me posted. Had one of those crazy dreams from the past, where I thought, how did I get here again? What a nightmare, then I wake up and say, oh thank heavens... It was a dream. I am happy. It's real... Do you ever have those?
